The story so far...
Explora is dedicated to experiential learning, hence the tag “See. Hear. Do”. This is derived from Confucius, who said: “What I see, I forget. What I hear, I remember. What I do, I know.” We believe that if the learning experience touches more of our senses, our resultant learning will be richer.
Gene and Shukor founded Explora in December 2009, in the hopes of bringing together adventure and experiential learning. They agreed that they wanted to deliver the ‘best in experiential learning’.
With Explora, Shukor is now able to achieve his dream of using adventure learning experiences in his work with at-risk youth. As for Gene, he brings his experience working with schools and corporations to design and deliver relevant and meaningful experiential learning programmes.
In December 2011, Explora welcomed two more Directors, Anthony Ang and Tey Chee Yan. Anthony brings on board his considerable experience in corporate training programmes and consultancy work to add to Explora’s portfolio of work. Mr Tey runs Gunung Ledang Resort at the foot of the fabled Mt Ophir in Johor, Malaysia. He has hosted quite literally thousands of avid nature lovers, trekkers and daytrippers in 20-plus years of managing the resort.
In early 2013, another milestone was crossed when Explora Sendirian Berhad was formed. Managing Director Muhammad Fauzi is an Outward Bound (Lumut, Malaysia) alumnus and a good friend of ours. With his extensive experience, we hope that we can bring the Explora touch to the Malaysian market. Indeed, the natural splendours of Malaysia beckon as we also work to develop programmes that can take Singaporeans further afield to experience the best in experiential learning Explora can offer!
ESB organises and conducts corporate teambuilding programmes in Gopeng and Kuala Woh in Perak as well as at Gunung Ledang in Johor, featuring waterfall abseiling, river scrambling, caving, whitewater rafting, trekking and camping. These programmes are suitable for schools as well. As an an institutional member of the US-based Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), ESB provides adventure ropes or challenge course design and operations consultancy services. Events like corporate dinners and family days round off ESB's service portfolio.
